This Is Why You Lost Your Way [S05,E154]

I Know Why You Lost Your Way

People loose there way when they loose their why.

You need a compelling why to the what.  Commanders come and go and in almost every case they lacked a compelling why.  When the tough times come, and they will, it won’t be enough to say, “I’m here for my son, or it’s all about the boys.”  As a matter of fact they will most likely be the reasons you leave.

Okay, so you need a great why.  How do you discover what that is?

Write it down

God wrote it down so there must be something to it.  Now, that doesn’t mean you have to write a novel.  Start by simply jotting down some of those life events that made a memory.  It seems to be human nature to down out all of God’s previous faithfulness with the urgent and pressing matters that occupy the here and now.

K.I.S.S. it

Dave Ramsey says this a lot, “Keep It Simple Stupid”.  I know stupid is an ugly word, but, usually the simple things are the most profound.  You may be in Royal Rangers for your son, but I’m sure it not just because he needed a ride.  No, you wanted him to get Godly teaching, build friendships that would encourage his personal relationship with God and gather other strong men around him as mentors.  That is a strong why.

I have been around many families at this point in my life and none were ever disappointed in the time and energy they invested in Royal Rangers.  Your son may be great at so many things, but you know, … what does a man gains when he has the whole world but looses his soul. (**)

Will your why let you down

Be carful that your why isn’t built around a goal.  In other words, if your why for being in Royal Rangers is to get your son a GMA, your why may let you down.  And that doesn’t mean that your son has let you down.  There are many things that interrupt your plans, and a compelling why will rise up above those interruptions.  Also, in my experience a journey well-traveled pays a lot more dividends that the destination ever will.  (Race Drop Out Story)

There Is A Lamp At Your Feet

As a dad and commander, you have to be in the Word.  You may only be a Royal Ranger commander for a shot season, but God will always be a lamp to your feet.

Don’t let the enemy give you a more compelling reason to drop out of the fight than the compelling reason God has for you to stay in it.
