How OP39 in Wisconsin gets GMA’s over the finish line 9 at a time [S01,E27]

In This Show

In this show, we are talking with my new friends Jody and Pat from Outpost 39, chartered through Oak Creek Assembly of God, up in Wisconsin.

Pat Myers is the AR commander, Medals Coordinator, and their Navigator Gatekeeper.  Jody Smith, is the Group Leader for the AR’s and ER’s.  Jody, as you will soon hear is originally from South Africa where he was a Boy Scout.  In 2006, he learned about Royal Rangers and it didn’t take long for he and his son to put down some roots.  He also serves as the Districts Communications Director and FCF Scribe.

From 6-15

When Jody and Pat got involved they didn’t have ER’s.  Step one was to identify boys that were committed and had a passion for Rangers.  From that discovery emerged the 6.  Those 6 boys along with dedicated leaders has resulted in an ER Outpost 15 strong and counting.  Jody attributes structure as key to this success.  Fun, adventure, and yes spontaneity is all birthed out of structure not chaos.  Several of their regulars don’t even attend Oak Creek.  I’d call that evangelism.

Boy Led to The “T”

At OP39 they firmly believe that another pillar under the structure of their success is “Boy led, adult facilitated”.  At every level Jody and Pat are allowing the boys to take ownership and lead.  This philosophy has resulted in better commitment, retention, and guest attendance.

Unplug the Scoreboard and The Stadium Empties

When you walk into a stadium what is the one piece of equipment that is easily seen and has to work perfectly?  The scoreboard.  This is true in Rangers.  Boys are visual and if they can’t see where they are and don’t have clarity in where they are going then their lost.  Put up a scoreboard that can easily be seen and you will ignite the competitive drive in every boy.  It may sound old school but at a large successful and tech savoy Outpost like OP30 they still put out the advancement posters.  If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
