Charisma Is Not Required
Commanders, let me unburden you for a minute, your job is not to be entertaining or charismatic. It’s not. Your job is to build a relationship as a mentor and a Leader. The Bible is relational at its core, our lives are relational at its core, and Rangers is relational at its core. I think we would all be naïve to think that we weren’t in competition with youth, other ministries in the church, and sports, but you’re not going to win the competition by trying to deliver in the same product. Let me explain. Youth has girls, we don’t and shouldn’t. Youth has to bring a high level of entertainment every week. Youth is all about evangelism and swelling the numbers as quickly and consistently as possible. Discipleship ministry like rangers sifts and distills down to the cream of the crop.
I’m not implying that youth and Rangers is some kind of cross town rivalry with youth, but we only have some much time and we are competing with everyone’s calendar.
Tell Your Story
The greatest relational tool that God has given you is your story, your experiences. It really is easy as that. You’re on a journey, sharing your story, being an eyewitness to the grace and mercy of God. Think about a witness in court. Their job is to tell what he has personally seen or heard. Everything else is hearsay and is inadmissible in court. You don’t have to make it up or be somebody you’re not. God is asking you to just be yourself and tell your story.
Preparation Covers a Multitude of Deficiencies
All of the charisma in the world will not real in a lost teenage boy’s mind. Being “Ready” for every Wednesday nights meetings will eclipse any effort to wing it. It will also create a solid platform that you can mentor from and avoid the shortcomings of trying to thrown in an extra dodgeball tournament.
Keep Casting and You’ll Fill the Nets
If your one of the vision castors for your Outpost, keep casting. In a sea of noise, a vision can get washed out, yes, even in a church setting. Protect the integrity of the ministry at all cost, and regularly share the vision God has set into motion within the Royal Ranger Ministry. We have all sat in amazement as a dry, monitored speaker keep an audience fixated on his word. How did he do it? He shared the truth of a God ordained vision. A great vision spoken in truth will beat a good narrative every time.
