Great Dates for Valentine’s Day

We desire to help make lasting marriages, which in return will create everlasting families.”

 

ALISE – Over the years we’ve gotten to help save and strengthen thousands of marriages! It is SO fulfilling to get to be a part of it and to get a front-row seat in watching couples totally transform their relationships. 

 

HEATHER – While I was on the last podcast… this time, I have Alise joining me!! She’s one of our Assistant Site Directors and helps in the creation of our newest products. She’s incredibly smart and creative and actually provided the inspiration that jump started our popular Dollar Date apps! (We’ll talk more about those later… just know that they are GAME CHANGERS when it comes to date night!)

 

In our last podcast together we talked about the importance of romance, spontaneity, and connectivity in marriage. We also touched on the #1 excuse that couples give for not doing date night – Not enough time. We shared this: 

  • Here’s a little tip for ya- instead of saying, “I don’t have time”- try saying, “it’s not a priority,” and see how that feels. 
    •  i.e “I don’t have TIME to date my spouse.” CHANGE TO —> “It’s not a PRIORITY to date my spouse.”

 

ALISE – Knowing that date night is part of being a Ranger – we wanted to talk a little bit about WHY your marriage NEEDS date night… AND we’re going to really dive in and give you some creative dates that you can do for Valentine’s Day!

 

10 Reasons WHY your marriage needs date night:

 

HEATHER – #10. Validation – 

  • Date night is an opportunity to open up to your spouse. Important conversations and topics are addressed about marriage when you take the time to get to know each other. You can make your spouse feel heard and let them know that you value their thoughts and opinions during these discussions. 
  • Date Nights are the perfect opportunity to learn to listen to your spouse’s thoughts, fears and dreams and to give them validation that they are all reasonable and that you will support them no matter what. Taking the time to listen to your spouse shows that you respect them and find their opinions intelligent and practical. 
  • You can even use your Date Nights to understand their thoughts about where your marriage is and where you want it to be by setting goals together and planning for a future you’re both excited about.

 

ALISE – #9. Excitement

 

  • Having date night with your spouse brings excitement.  It gives you something to look forward to.  We encourage doing date nights that are different than just dinner and a movie because it’s important to spice things up and have new adventures. AND it’s always easier to leave your comfort zone with someone who you feel the most comfortable with. 
  • Having exciting experiences also gives you an opportunity to bond and create NEW memories together. 

 

HEATHER – #8. Motivation

 

  • Don’t we all work harder when we know we’re working toward something? 
  • Consider a weekly date night as your daily incentive to get through tough weeks, days, or hours. 
  • If you have something to look forward to you’ll be happier with the everyday tasks that make the work week a challenge. A happier everyday means a happier marriage.

 

ALISE – #7. Positivity

 

  • Once you’ve been together for a little while, many of your interactions start to become mundane.  You may find yourselves mostly discussing grocery lists and to-do lists we like to call these business conversations.  You HAVE to have business conversations when you are married, but date nights give you the chance to interact on an upbeat and positive level. 
  • Date night provides those positive interactions no matter what else is going on in your lives. 
  • When you feel like your marriage is missing those smiles and kind words date night might be all you need to help you revive them!

 

HEATHER – #6. Relaxation

 

  • Everyone needs a little stress relief. 
  • Date nights are the perfect way to chill out with the one you love. Slow down, take a few deep breaths and use date night to recharge your batteries and get away from the everyday hustle and bustle of life. 
  • Taking time together and letting your worries melt away is the perfect way to strengthen your marriage.

 

ALISE – #5. Clarity

 

  • Date nights can actually help you prevent arguments! 
  • If you schedule some regular one-on-one time with your spouse, you’re more likely to know when something is bugging them and to be more supportive during that time.  
  • You can prevent a ton of arguments by just being more aware of what’s going on in your spouse’s life. Know their challenges, insecurities, and worries and you’re much less likely to argue over them when your spouse ends up being defensive.
  • The more clear you are about your spouse’s inner workings, the more likely you are to help instead of hurt them. You’ll recognize when things are changing and ways you can help!

 

HEATHER – #4. Social Interaction

 

  • Ensuring time for weekly date nights helps eliminate feelings of isolation and loneliness. 
  • This is especially important for stay-at-home moms who have fewer opportunities to socialize throughout the week. 
  • Everyone can benefit from intentional quality time together and you can even incorporate group dates to involve your closest couple friends. You can strengthen your marriage even more by surrounding yourself with others who are in great relationships as well. Invite couples to your group date nights that you admire and respect and you’ll have a night filled with positive role models!

 

ALISE – #3. Communication

 

  • Date night does wonders for communication.  
  • It’s that one on one time together where you allow space for meaningful conversations. Date night will give room for conversations about intimacy, your daily lives as well as your thoughts and opinions which will help you better understand your spouse. 
  • The more you chat, the more likely you are to remember why you fell in love in the first place. 
  • Having date night also gives you a chance to remind your spouse how much you love them. A few kind and loving words go a long way in marriage.

 

HEATHER – #2. Romance

 

  • Having a great relationship in the bedroom is completely essential to a strong marriage. 
  • Making intimacy a priority allows couples to feel close in a way that they can’t feel with anyone else. It’s a special bond between two people and yet it so often gets pushed aside. 
  • Prioritizing date night leads to more romance and more intimacy.

 

ALISE – #1. Fun

 

  • What’s more important than having a good time with the love of your life?! 
  • Marriage should be something you ultimately enjoy, despite the inevitable ups and downs. 
  • We like to think: “The couple that plays together, stays together.”

  • We cannot say enough great things about these little date apps! We LOVE our dates on our site but they do require a little prep.  You usually need to print something off or set something up.  They are so fun and perfect for special occasions but we wanted to create something that you could literally grab and go!
