Do you know what you don’t have to think about Commander Wayne?  The steps to taking a shower.  That may be why so many of us sing in the shower.  Our minds are free to relax and think of other things than the task at hand.  How many of us drive somewhere and don’t really remember the turn by turn that it took to get there?  It was automatic.

Rituals and routines are widely used in professional sports and we admire athletes for it.  So how can we be more deliberate with this use of automation and apply it to other areas of our lives that give us back time or help us make better use of the time we have?

Let’s take a look at a few of our top domains and see how routines can enrich you every time they’re applied.  There are four domains of your life that sit at the top of the chart:

  • God
  • Marriage and Family
  • Work
  • Church/Royal Rangers

So how can routine enrich these domains of our lives?

  • Routinely read your Bible
  • Routinely Date Your Wife
  • A Routine can keep you from work distractions and make you much more productive.
  • Set up a routine time each week to invest in Royal Rangers

Sounds great but how do we create and stick to routines?

Two of the easiest spaces in our day to develop a routine is morning and evening, and this can catapult your relationship with God and your family to a whole new level.

Keep a task list, journal, or planner.

Our Routines and Routines of Those We Respect

Last, let’s dispel the excuses of routine.

  1. I’m not that discipline

We often reserve the word discipline for those thin for those things we dread, but once you burn a few mental and physical calories gaining an aptitude for something you will begin to enjoy it more.  Practice not only makes perfect it makes pleasurable.

  1. I like to leave my schedule open for spontaneity

Bonus!  Routines can boost your creativity, give you back time, and eliminate mistakes.
