Unpacking from PowWow, The Most important part. [S01E22]

PowWow 2017, Penn Florida “Star Wars”

Ready, Ready for anything

The Ranger motto was never more true that at this year’s PowWow, and having a PowWow Playbook proved to be worth its weight in gold.  At OP169 our PowWow kicks off Thursday night with an Outpost leadership cookout and then a time of worship, sharing, and prayer.  About six hours before Thursdays kick off one of our most involved commanders called to report that his mother went home to be with the Lord shortly after he met her in the emergency room.  The hours that followed had the potential to spiral out of control, but the PowWow Playbook became the guide to making sure things were on track and where we might need to pick up the slack.

That commander was with us that night and I know what he meant when he said, “this is right where I need to be”.  PowWow is an adventure rich weekend of camping, but more than that it’s a time to with a fellowship of Christ followers.  It’s a time for boys and men alike to disconnect from the whirlwind of life and allow the Holy Spirit to save, heal, and empower.

Friday, Time to hand over the keys

Friday evening is the time to become the facilitator and let the boys lead.  From registration to cooking and cleaning, it’s their Outpost, and there is nothing more rewarding that seeing the patrol system work.

Saturday is always full of surprises

Saturday was rich will all of the usual activities: swimming hole, obstacle course, dodgeball etc…  But, the district had a new event that turned out to be a blast.  Lifesize foosball.

Services made it life changing

A few years ago Penn Florida made the terrific decision to add a special ER service.  Complete with a live worship band and a pastor prepared to speak on the older boys level, these services have become life changing.  We witnessed boys coming to know Christ, laying heavy burdens at the altar, and confessing the sin that had ensnared them.  God is good and is always faithful to move in a powerful way during PowWow.
