What do professionally trained experts say is the key to being alert? [S01E29] Reposted

Alert – He is mentally, physically, and spiritually alert.

In this episode we unpack the bluepoint “Alert” with a man who’s identity must remain a mystery.  He has been specifically trained by the military, through his collegiate studies and his various assignments with federal law enforcement to be alert.  This expert shares his advice on living an adventure rich life, being a great dad and husband all while remaining alert.

Mentally Alert

1 Peter 5, 8-11 Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The Devil is poised to pounce, and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Keep your guard up. You’re not the only ones plunged into these hard times. It’s the same with Christians all over the world. So keep a firm grip on the faith.

Boys and men are very visual.  This is one area where we can all be trapped very easily.  You must wake up and put on the full armor of God.  One of our Commanders says, “You can’t stop a bird from flying over your head, but you can stop it from nesting there”.  We can easily reject inappropriate thoughts if we are ready to repel them with God’s word.

Spiritually

Matthew 24:42-44, The Message (MSG)  “The Son of Man’s Arrival will be like that: Two men will be working in the field—one will be taken, one left behind; two women will be grinding at the mill—one will be taken, one left behind. So, stay awake, alert. You have no idea what day your Master will show up.

Clearly this is the most important area to stay alert.  We must be ready for Christs return and do all we can to help the ones within our circle of influence to be prepared.

Physically

Saying physically alert isn’t a lack of faith in God or a lack of faith in your fellow man, it’s a realization that we live in a fallen world where the evil one works in the hearts of lost men to bring about evil things.

Situational awareness

This is the key to being alert.  Think about it this way, if you were headed out for a picnic with your family you would check the weather.  If the weather reported a 50% chance of rain you would either move the picnic indoors or you would bring some umbrellas and ponchos.

If you were headed to a nearby town for dinner with the family you might check the local news and look up the traffic reports.  When you arrive at the restaurant you might survey the surrounding, check out the alternate exits and make sure the crowd is suitable for your family.  That doesn’t mean that you are expecting trouble, but rather heading it off at the pass.  All this information helps you stay alert and ensure that your plans are a success.

Another great analogy is the simple act of driving.  Your not expecting trouble and you don’t operated in fear, but you are certainly alert to your surrounding and the other drivers around you.

God uses people that’s clear.  Being alert makes you more useful in all of our every day encounters and gives God more opportunities to dispatch Christ followers who are ready, ready for anything.
