Wisdom travels at 88mph

Proverbs 8:11 New International Version (NIV)

11 for wisdom is more precious than rubies,
and nothing you desire can compare with her.

That’s a bold statement, but for those of us that have been on the planet a few decades the value of wisdom is obvious.  People have often said, “wisdom comes with time.”  I think old age comes with time, and furthermore, we have often said about some young person, “they are wise beyond their years.

Wisdom first comes from knowing who’s you are and committing to a deeper understanding of God and His word.  Beyond that, wisdom is a pursuit of understanding and discernment.

Here is one principle that I love and it’s from Proverbs 9:11, For through wisdom your days will be many, and years will be added to your life.  That alone is worth a few rubies.  Many times, we think of this and say, “yeah, if I was 80 and I could have a few extra years it would be nice.”  But, God can add years to your youth.

In 1985, the year before I graduated high school, I was an instant fan of Back To the Future.  The idea of time travel fascinated me and continues to captivate audiences today.  Jumping into the DeLorean, racing to the speed of 88mph, and being whisked through time was thrilling.

Marty McFly travels back to November 5th, 1955 and learns a little something about his present.

Wisdom is a little like time travel.  I can’t tell my son or daughter who they will marry or what kind of job they will have, but I can tell them something about the strength of their marriage relationship and the stability of there finances.  There are principles in Gods word that I have applied to my own marriage of 27 years that work.
