40% Boost in goal success instantly!

Experts say that if you want to increase the likelihood that you will reach a goal by 40%, write it down.  We don’t like to record our failures.  We often avoid writing down our goals, so that we don’t ever have to chronicle there never getting off the ground moment.  The problem with this is that it immediately reduces our chance of success by 40%.

In this episode of The Ranger Podcast we are going to help you write them down correctly.  Yes, there is a right way to do this.  We will examine what goals are worth writing down, how to write them down and how to organize them.

Gail Matthews, “The Effectiveness of Four Coaching Techniques in Enhancing Goal Achievement,” presented at the Ninth Annual International Conference on Psychology, sponsored by the Athens Institute for Education and Research, May 25–28, 2015, http://www.dominican.edu/academics/ahss/undergraduate-programs/psych/faculty/assets-gail-matthews/researchsummary2.pdf.

Writing goals down does at least 5 things …

  1. Identify & Clarify
  2. It is a significant first step (as demonstrated by the research) – It’s empowering!
  3. Motivates you to take some action – even if it is at a subconscious level
  4. It filters out other opportunities
  5. In enable you to see and celebrate progress (When you look back)

Writing your goals down is a two-step process and the first is quite simple.  Think of the goals that you would like to achieve in the next twelve months and write them down.  Don’t try to put them in any kind of order.  If it helps, mind map them.

Decide on your top ten.

Author them for success using the S.M.A.R.T goal rubric, and putting some details around them that will help you across the finish line.
